Hello All! Where I've Been. I know, it's been eons. I moved across the country. I changed my lifestyle from fast-paced, food-frenzied, yoga-loving, car-honking New York City to snail's paced, snow-covered, middle of nowhere, Minnesota. I bought my first house on six acres in the country. I got married. I left my new home for two months to perform theater in Wisconsin and write music in Arkansas. I returned home to my second winter in Minnesota. And, now, finally, my head feels like it's screwed on straight. What I've Been Doing Artistically. Though sometimes I feel as if I dropped off the planet for the last two years, I didn't actually stop creating. In 2008 I wrote a one-hour story and song concert called Minnesota's Ordinarily Unsung Concert (MOUC). The Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission gave me a grant to create a series of related songs and stories about unique and unusual Minnesotans in celebration of Minnesota's 150th birthday. I wrote six new songs and crafted six stories about real people from Minnesota's history, who are generally left out of the history books. The figures I celebrated in song include the Root Beer lady from Ely, a moonshine maker from Benton County, the Hormel Girls song and dance troupe from Austin, among others. I performed the MOUC all over Minnesota, including at the Minnesota State Fair. Upcoming Releases. It's time for me to put out some new music. First up, I have two live albums that will be ready for release within the next month or two. 1. Minnesota's Ordinarily Unsung Concert: Live is a live recording of Elisa's one-hour traveling song and story concert about unusual and unique Minnesotans. This show was commissioned by the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission and performed around Minnesota, including the Minnesota State Fair. Read more about the Ordinarily Unsung project here. 2. The Ordinarily Unsung Project Album features eight new songs about oddballs from American history performed solo and live. For more information or to order the albums, please contact info@eliakorenne.com. I also expect to have a studio album to release in 2010. Acting Again. Last fall I had the privilege of performing theater for the first time in years. I was asked by the amazing American Folklore Theater company to be one of three actor-singer-musicians in their presidential campaign song and trivia revue "And If Elected." I had the privilege of working with an incredible cast and crew and the opportunity to get to know Door County, Wisconsin, a beautiful peninsula jutting out into Lake Michigan. Fringe at the Fringe. There's more acting to come. My one-woman concert play The Tenth Muse full of songs about members of the fringe in American history was selected to be performed at the Minnesota Fringe Festival in Summer 2009. Heard on "All My Children" Eight songs from the album Favorite were heard on ABC's All My Children over the past year. Other News. I spent one month this past fall at the Writer's Colony of Dairy Hollow in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. There I worked on writing rock songs to be produced later this year. Upcoming Book. I'm working on a nonfiction book about my extreme move from New York City to New York Mills in west central Minnesota. The provisional title is How to Move to the Middle of Nowhere: Living in Transition. That's all the news from Lake Woebegone (or at least its environs). Till next time, Elisa |
