Hello folks.

I've just returned from four weeks at the idyllic Hedgebrook writers' residency on Whidbey Island in Washington State. All six writer-residents are given a fairytale cottage that looks like a cross between a hobbit's home and a gingerbread house and is nestled in glorious Pacific-northwest woods. There's a woodstove for heat, a loft bed for sleeping, and a great big writing desk. There's a window seat and lounge chair for reading and a tiny kitchen with one plate, one bowl, and one fork, spoon, and knife for warming up and eating the lunches the resident chef provides. Every night, the six women gather together for dinner at the farmhouse to share stories of their lives and the adventures of the day's writing. Occasionally, we even read (or in my case, sang) from our works-in-progress. In each cottage there are journals full of entries from all the women who lived in that cottage over the almost thirty years of Hedgebrook's existence. To say the least, it was an incredible experience. And on top of it all, I finished writing eight songs and the script for the one-woman musical version of the Ordinarily Unsung project.

I'm back in force after my Hedgebrook rejuvenation, and I'll be heading out on tour this weekend to perform with the incredible guitarist Dave Patterson at some wonderful gigs that I'm proud to announce. Look out residents of New York City, Connecticut, and Boston. I'm on my way.
