news

I've just returned from the Mountain Stage New Song Academy and Festival in West Virginia, and I'm feeling reinvigorated by music. Artistic community is a valuable part of life as an artist for me, one which I sometimes overlook. I feel fortunate that I continue to meet an amazing array of musicians who inspire me.

For those of you who have never been to a folk festival, much of the magic occurs in the wee hours of the morning sitting in a song circle around a campfire. There can be dozens of artists in the circle, and each one plays a song. With so many accomplished musicians sitting together, spontaneous jamming often occurs. I slept way too little this weekend, and had a chance to hear a lot of great music. Some folks I had the pleasure to listen to include Amy Speace and the percussionist Jagoda, Fred Gillen Jr., Steve Chizmadia, Matt Turk, Devon Sproule, KJ Denhert, Ina May Wool, Meg Hutchinson, The Dreamsicles, and a whole slew of others.

I'm excited to report that I'm finalizing the schedule for my upcoming Ohio and European tours. There's a great description and link to me (in French!) on the website for the festival I'll be playing in Nevers, France in October--click on "Programme." I'll also be opening for the extremely talented Tom Kimmel in England. Tom's songs have been covered by Linda Ronstadt, Johnny Cash, Joe Cocker, Shawn Colvin, Waylon Jennings, the Stray Cats, Randy Travis and the Spinners.

Other fun facts:

  • Womenfolk magazine features me in Part 3 of their ongoing series on independent female singers-songwriters.
  • Singer Magazine will review Favorite in their Sep-Oct issue.
  • The French music magazine Crossroads will feature me in their November issue.
  • The Dumas Brothel Museum--the inspiration for my song "Butte"--has started to advertise my music on their website. The Dumas is having financial trouble at the moment, so if you are in Montana, definitely stop in to support them!.
