What’s
it all about? Formerly known as the Elisa Korenne Band, Lolett’s
style is described as “smart, edgy, melodic rock” that stems from funk and
R&B influences. Rightly so, since, in the past, lead singer and songwriter
Elisa Koreene performed with G. Love & Special Sauce and Parliament.
The self-titled EP is three soulful rock ballads that talk about life’s
challenges. Koreene’s lyrics tell stories of relationships gone bad from
a female perspective: We could have talked/Till two days later/If we hadn’t
torn/Our clothes off first and You turn away and you don’t look back/I pretend
my heart is still intact. Lolett has been making a name for themselves in
the New York City music scene over the past year and a half, playing venues
like Elbow Room and the C-Note.
We say: Koreene’s rich voice is
amazingly addictive, similar to Sarah McLaughlin. This EP is very easy
on the ears, swarming with emotional lyrics and riddled with good sounds.
If you don’t believe us, check out the stellar guitar solo on Infatuation,
the EP’s first track. Run, don’t walk, to the Big Apple today to hunt
them down for your own copy because we’re not sharing.
